

“Blue notes?” are, well, notes that are blue. I enjoyed the twin clue “Officer’s title” for both SIR and MA’AM.ĥ4D. The phrase “Hermès, par exemple” is in French, so the answer must be in French, too (DIEU).Ģ0D/64D. This clue, however, is about the Greek god. Say “Hermès” to me and I think bags and scarves. Did you fall for this one? “It’s no loss” sounds as if we are supposed to write in “win,” but in this puzzle the answer is TIE.ĦD.

I loved this clue, and after solving it, my brain read all of the remaining ones in the voice of Edna Mode, the quirky designer in “The Incredibles.” In the movie, the character delivers the famous quote “I never look back, dahling. Metal that is “pumped” (in a gym) is IRON.ĥ5A. This “Shiner?” is not a blackened eye it’s a RAY, which shines its light.Ĥ0A. If you have gotten an “F in music class?” you’ve failed - unless the F is an indication to play forte, or LOUDly.Ģ3A. In this puzzle, however, the direction is on the sheet music, where ARCO means that you should play with the bow instead of pluck the strings.ġ7A. “Direction to bow, for a violinist” sounds as if we are supposed to be thinking about a string player standing up and taking a bow after playing. Still, there was a plethora of tricky clues to dissect, which made solving Mr. (Fun fact: “ Muliebrity” is the feminine counterpart to “virility.”) I also have never ICED IT (2D), as far as I know, whenever I have “Sealed the deal.” I did not guess, for example, that the answer to “Strong and energetic” at 3D was VIRILE, even though it is defined that way. There were a few speed bumps for me in the northwest, mostly because I was not on the same wavelength as those entries.
